Rep. Barney Frank introduced the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007 today that will legalize and regulate online gambling and poker in the US.
“Traditional forms of legalized gambling already exist in nearly every state. By continuing to prohibit Internet gambling in the U.S., the U.S. has left Americans who choose to gamble online without meaningful consumer protections. The proposed legislation would institute practical and enforceable standards to bring transparency to Internet gambling and provide consumers the protections they expect and deserve.”
This bill focuses on creating a safer and more controlled gambling environment for U.S. citizens. Some of the changes that will be made, if this bill passes, include:
- Safeguards against fraud
- Protection against underage and compulsive gambling
- Proper taxes and fee’s
- Ability to have gambling further regulated on a state-wide level
The Internet Gambling Regulation Act won’t be voted on for another few months. I recommend calling and emailing your state representative to voice your opinion. They have to listen, and it can influence their stance on the subject.
