Pot Limit Omaha Hi – Where the real cash is

Ever since Chris Moneymaker decided to beat top pros at the 2003 WSOP main event, the NL Hold’em games have become flooded.  Before, online Hold’em was a lucrative game and a very rewarding game for players to make a living at.  But once the boom happened, all the big name pros have moved on to bigger and better games.  One of those games is PL Omaha Hi.

Sammy Farha once said “If NL Hold’em is the Cadillac of poker, then Omaha is the Porsche of poker.”  The game of Omaha does have a higher variance than NL Hold’em.  The swings are faster and harsher due to the draw heavy boards, and set over set hands.  It is not uncommon to triple up in a few hands and go bust in the next series of hands.  This is a great game to play if you are an action player and love to make semi-bluffs with your draws.

If you watch Omaha games on-line, all of the top professional players are playing.  The trend right now is to see  Phil Ivey , Tom “Durrrr” Dwan , Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies to be playing heads-up PLO which always leads to huge action and over $100k pots.  It’s not uncommon for a player to lose $500k in one session against one another.  You can watch these players on Full Tilt Poker.

If you aren’t confident in your Omaha game, play micro stakes and learn how to play it effectively and move up.  Getting your mind on the plane to see the angles of bets and how other players play their hands will springboard you into the mindset of an Omaha player.  Figuring out how to play Omaha effectively will be the defining moment in your cash game career.

Can you handle the speed of a “Porsche?”
