Back in August this year, South Point Casino created history as the first casino to get the intrastate online poker license. The CEO of South Point Hotel Casino & Spa, Michael Gaughan stated that they hoped to get a head start of at least 2 or 3 months ahead of the others by getting the license first. In September, the casino also announced that it was launching a free online poker site where players can register and play online poker games using play money. The casino was also running promos to give away exciting rewards to the members on the play-money poker site.
While many people were happy about this, poker fans using Mac systems were disappointed, because the South Point online poker client is not compatible with Mac operating system. Considering that Mac users make up a good percentage of online poker players, South Point would be losing on its customer base by not offering a Mac-friendly version of its poker software.
Poker Site Powered by In-house Software
Southpointpoker.com will be powered by the in-house software that it has developed in collaboration with Zen Entertainment Network, which is known for developing both PC and Mac friendly gaming softwares. However, the downloadable poker software on the play money site is not compatible with Mac, leaving many wonder where the Mac compatible version is. Well, only the South Point Poker development team can answer that!
Hopefully, the casino will introduce the Mac-friendly version of the software when it officially launches the real money online poker site sometime at the end of this year. Otherwise, a number of Mac poker players will be left behind while their counterparts using Windows OS will get to enjoy the online poker experience and benefit from the many promos on the site.
Launch of Real Money Poker Site Delayed
The official launch of the real money casino room by South Point Poker was scheduled for October 6 for the Casino’s club members and October 17 for the rest of the state. However, that did not happen as the independent testing process of the South Point Poker Software is taking more time than expected.
According to a statement made by the COO of South Point Casino, Lawrence Vaughan, their poker software is the first to be released in the market, because of which the testing would be rigorous and in detail. He added that it was a good thing anyway, as proper testing of the software will help in fixing the flaws and save them from embarrassment in Nevada. Even with the delay, Vaughan expects to launch the site before anybody else, sometime at the end of the year.
South Point Poker Promotions You Could Miss
The casino had its play money poker site up and running in the meantime, and was also offering exciting rewards to those playing on it. Sadly, even the free play version of the poker client is not compatible with Mac OS, which means, that even here, Mac users are being sidelined. Because of the incompatibility of the poker software, Mac users would be missing out on free tournament seats, cash prizes and other rewards.
The free poker site would be hosting qualifying tournaments on a daily basis, where winners will get a free seat to the Weekly main event at South Point Casino, which offers a cash prize worth $10,000. In addition to that, players can also win cash prizes of up to $100,000 and other goodies that the casino will be offering.
More than anything, Mac poker players would be missing out on the numerous cash tournaments and other real money poker events if the real money poker site also does not offer the Mac version of the software.
Using Mac? Wait longer for online poker!
South Point Poker will most likely be the first intrastate online poker room offering real money play in Nevada. If the poker room does not offer Mac version of its poker software, then poker fans using the OS will have to wait for another gaming provider to set up shop and start operations in the state. Considering that could take a few more months, Mac poker users will have to wait for a period of 4 or even close to 6 months to enjoy online poker games for real money.
