Tip 10: Don’t Berate the Fish

Recommend this!

When you’re playing poker, there are a few things you should never do. One of them is berating the fish. As much as you’d like to go off on player after they lay a bad beat on you, you just have to take the beat like a man, and move on.

An example of berating a fish would be, “Wow you’re so terrible at poker. How do you call down the gutshot straight draw to the river with terrible pot odds. You know nothing about poker and should quit now before I take all of your money.”

What does this accomplish? Well it might make you feel better for a few minutes, but everyone at the table will be angry at you for chasing away a losing player. You’re also teaching the donk (below average player), about skills involved in poker that he may have never thought about. And talking about good vs bad poker at the table will often tighten up a loose poker game.

Very true – not only that but when the fish next gets a hand he will probably go gunning for you…
