Phil Gordon is today a professional poker player, but it was not the career that he envisioned himself in during his school days. Gordon attended Georgia Tech and graduated in 1991 with a degree in Computer Science. Initially, he worked for companies like Lockheed and Santa Cruz Operation but joined Netsys Technology as their first employee when the company started up. When Cisco Systems bought out that company, Gordon retired. The 1997 purchase had made him a millionaire and he decided to travel.

However, just four years later, Gordon found himself very settled indeed in a seat at a poker table. It was no ordinary chair, but one of those around the World Series of Poker Main Event. He came 4th in that 2001 tournament and took home a further $400,000. The WSOP has actually become one of his specialist tournaments. Gordon went on after that cash to finish 6th in the $2,000 Limit Hold ‘Em and 3rd in the Omaha Hi/Lo Split in the same year. 2005 was also a good year for him in the WSOP. In the $1,500 No Limit Hold ‘Em, Gordon finished 3rd.

The World Poker Tour, on the other hand, has not been quite as successful. He has only made it to a handful of final tables, with the first being in 2002. He finished 5th in the Ultimate Bet Poker Classic that year, and later went on to win the Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament in 2004.

Gordon has had some success elsewhere though, winning the Full Tilt Poker Championship in 2006 and finishing in the final sixteen in the 2007 NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship.

Gordon, as well as feeling comfortable at the [poker table, is also comfortable commentating on it. He has taken to providing commentary for many channels now, so when he does decide to put the chips away, he will never have to return to the world of computers!
