Born in Riverside, CA in 1976, Phil Ivey is one of the rising stars of the poker world. Constantly compared to Tiger Woods, Ivey is now used to his fame. The fame he has achieved has come with the amazing way that he plays and the results that he has achieved.

Ivey actually grew up in New Jersey and worked at a telemarketing firm straight out of school. It was there that he and his co-workers discovered the game of poker and began to play amongst themselves. Ivey actually played games illegally in Atlantic City for while, but it gave him chance to hone his skills.

Ivey turned professional and made an instant impact on the poker stage. In his first full year as a professional, Ivey won the 2000 World Series of Poker $2,500 Limit Omaha, which earned him $195,000 and his first WSOP bracelet. Other victories and bracelets came in 2002, the year in which he got three – $2,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, SHOE and $1,500 Seven Card Stud – and 2005, with the $5,000 Limit Omaha. In 2002, he equalled the record for the most single wins in a year.

In the World Poker Tour, Ivey has no been so successful. Whilst making the final table several times, he has never actually won an event. His best finish was in fact the World Poker Open in season one, where he finished 2nd.

More recently, Ivey appeared on the European Poker Tour in 2006. It was in the event in Barcelona, Spain and Ivey actually came in 2nd. Later in that year, he was invited to the London All Star Challenge and finished 7th overall. Europe seems to be a good stomping ground for Ivey. He also won $1 million in Monte Carlo in November 2005 in the Millions tournament. That, combined with his other results takes his prize money to $8 million as of 2007.

Ivey is undoubtedly one of the best players around, and as such was invited to play in the team against Andy Beal some time ago. He won millions in a few short days. Ivey has the respect of his peers and fans alike and there seems to be no stopping him!
